The new Children’s Heart Centre will be built next to - and part of - The Great North Children’s Hospital on the Royal Victoria Infirmary site. You can see the site outline below. The site was previously the old Victoria Wing and is currently being used as a large car park.
The site is broadly flat and bound by:
The Great North Children’s Hospital to the north, beyond which lies the broader RVI estate;
Queen Victoria Road to the east, beyond which lies the Newcastle University Campus;
The Old Children’s Outpatients Building to the south, beyond which lies Richardson Road and the southern extent of Leazes Park; and
Peacock Hall (Grade II listed) to the west, beyond which lies the site of the new RVI multi-storey car park which is currently under construction.
